At Darklight 2011: Strictly Roots, we offered the winner of the coveted ‘Spirit of Darklight‘ title the opportunity to launch a crowd-funding campaign with the full support of the Darklight team and Fund:it. The winner of the award, Laberinto Verde, directed by Abel Kavanagh and Amaru Durand Mitre is a documentary about the coca leaf in South America, the film looks at the role the sacred leaf plays in Peruvian and Bolivian societies, past and present. It had a huge impact on us, wowing the Programmers and Awards Jury alike.
We’ve just launched a Fund:it campaign for Abel’s new documentary project, Éireannach? (Irish?) which explores ideas of nationality and what it means to be Irish, particularly to Irish born, French raised Abel. You can check out the campaign at http://www.fundit.ie/project/eireannachirish. Awards for your support include tickets to Darklight events, very special screenings of the finished film, consultations for aspiring filmmakers with the Darklight Festival team and Abel, and even Turf Cutting lessons.
