Save the Pop Culture - Experimental German Music Videos 1998-2003

The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, in co-operation with the Goethe-Institut, has compiled a programme containing 15 experimental German music videos. This programme features the best examples of German music videos produced between 1998 and 2003, selected from the MuVi programmes of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen. The Oberhausen MuVi Prize is awarded for best visualisation, which sets the clips collected in this programme clearly apart from the flow of expensive performer videos. They refuse to obey mainstream laws, re-shape them according to their own standards, play with them, create a parallel universe incorporating all the traditions of modern art. The programme features clips by Kloefkorn/Husain for Sensorama, by Philipp Stoelzl for Mr. X and Mr. Y, by Deborah Schamoni for the Goldene Zitronen or by Graw Böckler for Ulf Lohmann: 15 works out to upset music video viewing habits.

The DVD is the result of a co-operation between Lars Henrik Gass, director of the Short Film Festival Oberhausen, and Detlev Gericke-Schönhagen, head of the Goethe-Institut's film department, and was produced with the kind support of Profimaz and OK Media Disc Service.
