Synth Eastwood Present Gruff Rhys

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010
Hello! Synth Eastwood here.
Darklight 2010 is just around the corner and we’re really excited to be involved again this year. When Nicky and Sinead briefed us on what they were planning for this years festival we knew it was going to be an enjoyable challenge. There are 6 of us in Synth Eastwood so choosing one “Hero” which reflects what we do was always going to be difficult. We wanted to pick a Hero who’s creative output brings both music and film together but whose inventive ideas set them apart. To Synth Eastwood, Gruff Rhys is that Hero.
Super Furry Animals, Neon Neon and his own solo output form only part of his vast discography as Gruff has also collaborated with everyone from Mogwai to Gorillaz. These musical projects have always been accompanied with amazing videos, record covers, stage designs, notions, props and stunts. Gruff always brings a sense of occasion and fun to everything he produces so don’t miss out on the screening of his documentary.
Seperado! is a “psychedelic western musical” in which the Welshman takes us on a pan continental road trip in search of his long lost Patagonian uncle, the poncho wearing guitarist Rene Griffiths.
This will be the Irish premiere of the documentary which will be followed by a Q&A with both Gruff & Director Dylan ‘Goch’ Jones.
After the screening we will cross the river to the newly refurbished venue “The Grand Social” (formerly Pravda) for the Darklight Halloween Fancy Dress Party. Gruff will man the decks alongside friend and musicman Andy Votel. The B-Music DJ Collective and Darklight DJs will be playing some frightfully good records for the night that’s in it and Synth Eastwood will play a live Halloween themed audio/visual set.
